Alexei M. Belyaev

Director of N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology

Dr Belyaev became President of the Center in 2010.

In addition to his role as President of the Center, Dr Belyaev is Chief Visiting Oncologist of the North-Western Federal District, Head of Department of Oncology of I.I. Mechnikov North-Western State Medical University, Chair of Association of Oncologists of the North-Western Federal District, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor.

Education:
1986 – MD with Honors and Gold Medal for Academic Excellence, S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy;
1992 – Fellowship, S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy.

Academic career:
1993 – PhD, topic of dissertation – Morpho-functional characteristics of soft tissues surrounding a gunshot wound;
2004 – D.Sc., topic of dissertation – Cytoreductive surgeries and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy as part of combination therapy of prevalent forms of abdominal cancer.

Since 1998 Dr Belyaev has been working on the issues of proving care to patients with advanced peritoneal cancer. He was a pioneer of cytoreductive surgeries combined with continuous hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion chemotherapy in Russia. He has been involved in setting up emergency and palliative care for cancer patients.

He has been honored with many awards in his field, including the Letter of Commendation from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Excellent Worker of Public Health Badge awarded by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Medal for significant personal achievements in the field of national healthcare.

He has written more than 200 publications and 1 monograph. He advised on 10 PhD dissertations and 3 D.Sc. dissertations.

Aleksandr M. Shcherbakov

Deputy Director, D.Sc., Professor

Education:
1978 – MD, Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University;
1980 – Medical Residency, N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology;
1983 – Fellowship, N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology.

Academic career:

1983 – PhD, topic of dissertation – Electrosurgical polypectomy during colonofiberscopy in out-patient and in-patient clinic settings;

2006 – D.Sc., topic of dissertation – Clinical significance of intraluminal endoscopic surgery in treatment of inoperable patients with esophagus cancer.

Since 2000 Dr Shcherbakov has been pursuing research in treatment of patients with prevalent forms of gastro-intestinal cancer via endoscopy and radiation therapy.

He has been honored with several awards in his field, including the Letters of Commendation from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Excellent Worker of Public Health Badge awarded by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Medal for significant personal achievements in the field of national healthcare.

Dr Shcherbakov has published 175 scientific publications and owns 13 patents of invention. He advised as a scientific consultant on 3 PhD dissertations and 2 D.Sc. dissertations.

Sergey V. Kirichuk

Deputy Director, General Administration

Education:
1986 – Degree with Honors S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy;
2004 – Degree with Honors, Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.
In 2011, Mr Kirichuk completed the Organization and Management in Healthcare program at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

Further training:
In 2013, Mr Kirichuk completed a training program in Tokyo, studying the Japanese healthcare system;
In 2014, he completed a training program named ‘Performance improvement of health care institutions using the lean management methods’ in Sweden.

Mr Kirichuk is the author of 4 inventions.
He supervised several competition winning projects held under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry, Science and Technology of Russian Federation, the Russian Foundation for Technological Development, and the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology, etc.

Mr Kirichuk has been honored with several awards, including decoration medals for his service in the Armed Forces of the USSR (1986-1992) and the 70 years of Kaluga Oblast Commemorative Medal to honor his significant contributions to the development of the health care system of Kaluga Oblast (2016).

Andrei P. Karitskiy

Chief of Medicine, PhD Medicine

Education:
1987 – MD with Honors, S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy;
1993 – Fellowship, S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy, Department and Clinic of Naval Surgery.

Academic career and experience:
From 1987 to 1990, Dr Karitskiy served as Chief Medical Officer on a Black Sea Navy Fleet submarine. In 1993, he completed his fellowship and presented his dissertation titled ‘Mallory-Weiss syndrome: its diagnosis and treatment’.

Later, he was appointed Chief Resident at the Department and Clinic of Naval Surgery, where he worked his way through from assistant to senior teacher to docent. Starting as a senior lieutenant, he was eventually promoted to the rank of colonel.

In 2010, Dr Karitskiy was discharged from navy and joined the N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology as its Chief of Medicine.

He has been honored with the Excellent Worker of Public Health Badge awarded by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

Galina S. Kireeva

Scientific Secretary of N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology, Ph.D. Biology

Education:
2013 – Specialist degree with Honors, Saint Petersburg State Chemical Pharmaceutical University;
2014 – Internship, Saint Petersburg State Chemical Pharmaceutical University.

Academic career:
2015 – Ph.D. dissertation – Intraperitoneal chemoperfusion treatment of disseminated ovarian carcinoma in experiment.

Ms Kireeva has managed and participated in a broad range of scientific research activities funded by grants awarded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Russian Science Foundation and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

In 2016, she was honored with the Commendation Letter of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. In the same year, she received the President’s Youth Award, which is annually awarded to honor young talents in various fields. In 2014, she received a grant from the Japanese Society of Medical Oncology.

Ms Kireeva is the chair of the Young Scientists Board of the N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology and one of the founders of the Science and Practice in Oncology Training program, an academic program for oncologists.

She currently holds a Certificate in Advanced English which proves her high-level achievement in English.

She is the author of more than 90 publications (1 monograph, 2 textbooks and 56 articles) published in Russian and international peer-reviewed academic journals.
